Debra Gould, the Home Staging Diva, shares some great tips for making your home attractive to buyers. You can read the full article on Debra’s blog at StagingDiva.com but we’ll give you the short version right here.

  1. Consider the curb appeal. Make sure your lawn is groomed, finished areas are swept, and trash is neatly tucked away.
  2. Get rid of clutter! Look at every item with a critical eye and ask yourself why you are keeping it. Still too cluttered? You might consider renting a storage locker.
  3. Turn excess into cash. If you have items that you bought for projects that you don’t need, return them for store credit.
  4. Watch where the eye goes. As you look around your rooms, observe what attracts your eyes. Chipped paint, nail holes, and peeling wallpaper are all easily remedied.
  5. Find a fix-it person. Make sure things work as they should, faucets don’t drip, door knobs don’t fall off, and drawers open and close properly.
  6. Clean, clean and clean again. Everything should be sparkling clean and dust-free. Consider having a professional cleaner help you.
  7. Let in some air. Open some windows for at least 10 minutes so your home doesn’t feel stuffy.
  8. Let in some light. Dimly lit rooms look small and dingy. Consider investing in floor lamps for dark rooms or painting a lighter color.
  9. Don’t forget fresh flowers. Talk to your florist about which blooms last the longest.
  10. Carefully consider music. Soft music can help create a soothing environment and outside noise less noticeable.
